Geekulcha And The New Obsession - Skateboarding

Why did the chicken cross the road? Because it wanted to see what's on the other side. The world is growing, things are changing, getting smarter and more integrated than ever. Geekulcha honoured an invite by the Northern Cape Department of Economic Development and Tourism [http://economic.ncape.co.za] (DEDaT) to take part in skateboarding activities in the province - the Kimberley Diamond Cup [http://kimberleydiamondcup.com] (KDC). KDC is one of biggest skateboarding events with over 15 annu

Tech4Africa challenges established development teams to join the Random Hacks of Kindness and share skills

This year Tech4Africa is running a Hackathon on the two days prior to the main event. The Hackathon is aimed at imparting workplace skills around collaboration, and instilling the notion that a simple utility value product can be shipped in two days when a team pulls together. And he’s the rub: Tech4Africa is challenging all tech teams from established companies to send at least one person to the Hackathon, to share their skills, even if for a few hours. The founder of Tech4Africa, Gareth Knig

I Love My Entrepreneurship Culture

I am of a belief that "You are not hardcore unless you live hardcore". Being an Entrepreneur in 2015 is one of the most popular things to be but we need to be true to ourselves and not embark on the journey just because the The Girl Next Door is in it. There is more to being an Entrepreneur than meet the eye, the suits and the economical-correct jargon and I will be sharing my experience of the Entrepreneurship ecosystem as a member of the Geekulcha movement. A motto you will often hear about

Why South Africa Needs Female Makers

My Father works in the SAPS and he once said that this thing of South Africa trying to equalize the gender in the police force is a bad idea because it's going to get them killed, they now have to protect an extra person who is standing in their way of duty. Only women who want to be in the police force and physically qualify to be there should be there, the rest should find something else to do. What do you think? I'm a feminist but I have to agree with my dad. We have to acknowledge our diff

Disruptive Technology

Disruptive technology is a result of a market-driven technology evolution where customers want an instant response from business and business wants to have a single view of the customer to leverage off the increasing amount of data that is now available. Another driver of disruptive tools is to enable a homogeneous user experience across all platforms. There is also a need for organisations to create a virtual workforce and have rapid deployment of technologies. To some, disruptive technology.

Holiday with the Geeks

The Geekulcha Vacation Work Programme saw a number of youngsters flock into mLab [http://www.mlab.co.za/] at the Innovation Hub to learn. More product savvy, less brand conscious

The Apple product launch had the world up in arms. Both the tech geeks and “the rest”. It’s really amazing; the perfection that is expected from anything that is related to technology. Be it the actual device, the presentation of it or the features it is bringing forward. With so many devices to choose from, brand loyalty from customers is almost a given. You use a device that works for you, and going forward, you support the brand (regardless of any other product innovations). Giving no prefe

What the geeks say...

Geekulcha is very young in business years. Yes, it is an IT base, however, it is built up of a range of circumstances, individuals and experiences. The common ground is the positive knowledge that it has managed to share about ICT. Through the years, we have become stronger as a team and have managed to grow as an organisation. Who would’ve thought that a group of students who shared mutual interest could have such influence? Below is what some of our Geeks have to say: > “I am a Graphic desi

Enterprise Architecture Part 2

We have previously [/enterprise-architecture] addressed the concept of enterprise architecture. Now we probe into the fundamentals to be considered when defining the design phase of enterprise architecture. When developing an enterprise architecture, like solving any problem, the when’s, who’s, what’s, when’s, and why’s must be clarified. Considering pieces like data, functions, networks, people, the schedule and the motivation supporting the project will contribute to the success of implementat

Enterprise Architecture

The Enterprise architecture (EA) practise uses collaborative design methods, standard architectural frameworks and general patterns to manage the complexity of large scale enterprise changes without losing sight of strategic context. It helps to identify opportunities for improvement and to define the desired future state of the business and its IT assets. The most widely used practise is The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF) with the recent version being TOGAF 9.1, released 1 December
