SkateHacks - Youth Month Tours
Skateboarding is an Art that requires focus and best level of creativity. For many, this is also a way of life and how they make a living.
For Techies, there is a great challenge that explorers can work on: putting tech into skateboards to make them smart and cool. As the world get more connected, interesting stuff result.
Geekulcha in collaboration with the Northern Cape Department of Economic Development and Tourism (DEDaT), have been on a mission to use Skateboarding to enhance Tech skills and Innovation through the SkateHacks.
SkateHacks activities take place mainly as part of the Kimberley Diamond Cup events to attract more youngsters into Science and Technology through Skateboarding.
This June, the focus is specifically on the youth through the plug and play mobile trolley initiative by DEDaT. Each tour consist of these activities: Skater meets Maker chats, Mobile Ninjas section, Maker Corner (Hack-a-Skate) and a Gaming Zone.
Youth Month tours will take place as follows:
Northern Cape (Rural Education Development )
- 02 June: Springbok
- 03 June: Upington
- 05 June: De Aar
Gauteng (Smart Growing World solutions)
- 16 June: Soweto
- 23 - 24 June, Midrand, Gauteng (IoTHack @ InnoLive Conference)
- 24 - 26 June, Pretoria, Gauteng (GKHack16)
These activities seeks to find and promote Innovation in Skateboarding. The best idea will be exhibited at the Skateboarding World Championships in October.
