Mpumalanga Got Geekulchad

Mpumalanga Got Geekulchad

Geekulcha is a platform for ICT students where they connect, learn, share and put skills to real use. We are always looking for ways to reach to more students and empower the youth. University of Mpumalanga (UMP) is one of the newest universities and they invited the Geeks to come through.

Consisting of 3-day workshops, Geekulcha crew visited the University with a mission to establish a Geekulcha Student Society (GKSS) at UMP.

To assess capacity, different hands-on workshops were hosted including an Intel Developer Tools session, product development cycle and an open dataquest focused on HIV and AIDS.

Dr Vukosi Marivate, a Data Scientist from CSIR also joined in through Skype to inspire/motivate the students.

A new team to lead the GKSS committee was established to grow the Geek Culture movement on campus and provide leadership through Technology and Innovation onto other students.

GKSS UMP also joins the GKSS at Sol Plaatje University chapter in this student innovation drive.

We thank the university's ICT leadership through Prof. Thembisa Ngqodi. It's very pleasing to see the leadership trying all efforts to empower the students.

The Geeks had great a time at the University of Mpumalanga and looking forward to seeing the students become industry leaders.
