#gkVacWork Prieska To Build A Green Pipeline

We live in the buble of the 4th Industrial Revolution, everything is changing, as slowly as it may be - our world is getting smarter and smarter. We have to ask ourselves on readiness of this shift. Digital skills are a necessity for what we are gearing ourselves into.

In 2014, Geekulcha established a hands-on skills redistribution programme - the VacWork to get young people coding and build tech startups. Since then, over 850 scholars took about and 6 startups resulted.

The VacWork programme has since extended to the Northern Cape hosted by the Department of Economic Development and Tourism (DEDAT) and the NCDev Ecosystem. This edition takes place in July every year.

Youth ICT and Business VacWork July 2018 Prieska

Taking place at the Empilisweni Youth Service Center (YSC), in Prieska - young and unempoloyed youth will build digital skills and solutions in line with Green Technologies for the sustainability of the province. The youngsters will be mentored by members from DEDAT, Sol Plaatje University and the NCDev Ecosystem.

Solutions to be developed will comprise of mobile apps, websites, electronics systems and graphics design. Whatever the youngsters build, the solutions have to make business sense. It's important to get them thinking and building green-focused solutions to ensure a sustainable green economic growth.

On the last day, the youngsters will present their solutions and take part in a tech debate for trophy.
